Case Study
Creation of a custom-made system for unit
management and quality control in the automotive industry
On the search for the automatization of processes
Maswer is a global service provider for the automotive industry. With a history of more than 45 years and present in countries such as Germany, Spain, India, Mexico and the United States, it has now established itself as one of the most reliable service providers in the automotive industry.
Being part of its catalog of services, Maswer implements a process which ensures the quality of units by inspecting, repairing and validating each one of them.
This process was not automated at all and its flow was carried out manually through Excel files, resulting in a lack of reliable and up-to-date information to make decisions and report progress to its clients.
As a result, Maswer decided to collaborate with Ensitech to implement an IT-oriented solution that allowed them to have traceability of each unit in the process, as well as reduce the time needed to generate indicators both within the organization and its customers.
Development of “Project Control System”
Alongside Ensitech, Maswer decided to direct its efforts on a turnkey operation with well-established budget, conditions and scope.
For this kind of service to be executed in a timely and efficient manner, it is important to work with high quality standards and methodologies that guarantee the optimal execution of the project. Because of this, Enistech works under the CMMI model (CMMI-DEV Level 3) along with an agile methodology (SCRUM).
The team at Ensitech conducted a discovery phase to gain in-depth understanding of Maswer’s processes in order to understand their needs and business objectives and to establish the appropriate parameters and scope regarding the project.
The solution: the development of a mobile field application, a back office system and REST services (APIs) mounted on a high availability cloud infrastructure (Azure). A team consisting of a technical leader, a project leader, .NET and Android developers was appointed for the project, supported by a Quality team.
A key consideration for this project was that, given the nature of Maswer’s processes, it was necessary to implement lightweight and flexible APIs so that the system would be able to withstand the changes that occurred at each step of the process.
Technologies / Platforms:
- .NET Framework (MVC, Web API)
- Android / Java
- React (real-time reporting)
- Microsoft Azure (App Service, SQL Server, Push Notifications)
Once the system has been released, Ensitech implements a specialized support service as well as a comprehensive monitoring and managing of its infrastructure, which allows the correct continuity of the solution altogether.
“I really enjoy partnering with Ensitech because of its continuous planning; there is always a work plan, and there is always a Project Manager at the head of the project […]. And above all, the very structured path followed to take a conceptual idea, from being sometimes vague and undefined, to a more concrete idea. “ Commented Nicolas Peñaranda, Director of Maswer Mexico.
Delivery
Ensitech designed, developed and implemented a platform to manage the lifecycle of the units being processed in the workflow, to know their repair status and to carry out quality control of the entire process.
For Maswer, this platform has been reflected as a competitive advantage. Among its main characteristics are:
- It’s a scalable and adaptable system.
- Provides greater visibility and control of the service.
- It has helped to streamline processes and reduce costs.
- For its clients, it offers accurate and real-time reports.
